Stiegl
Stiegl is an Austrian brewery founded in Salzburg in 1492, producing an alcohol-free range since 1992 that now covers pilsners, wheat beers, and fruit Radlers at 0.0%. The Kiener family has owned the brewery since 1887 and Stiegl operates today as Austria's largest private brewery. The first written record of the brewery dates to 1492, placing it among the oldest continuously operating breweries in the German-speaking world.
Stiegl entered the alcohol-free category in 1992 with its first AF beer. The current 0.0% range is produced via dealcoholisation, in which the beer is brewed at full strength and then has the alcohol removed, a process the brewery says preserves the aroma and body of the original. The lineup covers a pilsner, a naturally cloudy 0.0% wheat beer, and fruit-flavoured Radlers (a German style blending beer with citrus and fruit juice). The core pilsner is positioned as an isotonic option suited to active lifestyles, making it a natural choice for fitness-focused drinkers reaching for an AF beer after exercise.
Beyond brewing, Stiegl operates its own organic farm, Wildshut, where it grows ancient grains for use in production. The brewery describes Wildshut as the only facility of its kind run by an Austrian brewery, and the farm reflects the brand's emphasis on ingredient provenance as a longstanding operational priority.
Distribution of the 0.0% range is through specialist alcohol-free retailers rather than mainstream supermarket channels.
