Super Bock
Super Bock is a Portuguese beer brand first produced in 1927 that has since become the best-selling Portuguese beer in the world.
The Super Bock Group, which traces its origins to the CUFP founded in 1890, is headquartered in Matosinhos, Porto, and is jointly owned by Viacer (56%) and the Carlsberg Group (44%). The trademark was registered on 3 March 1927, and the beer was launched originally as a winter beer. Super Bock became the industry leader in the Portuguese market in 1992.
The brand introduced an alcohol-free beer in 2008. Its AF range is brewed using innovative technology developed in partnership with the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, and the beers are made from malted barley, hops, and maize. The range covers alcohol-free pilsners and stouts. A gluten-free beer certified by the Portuguese Coeliac Association was added in 2020.
Super Bock is available worldwide and is sometimes cited alongside Sagres as the most popular beer in Portugal. The brand has sponsored the Porto Film Festival, Fantasporto, since 1989, was an official sponsor of Expo'98 in 1998 and of Porto 2001, designated the European Capital of Culture, and launched the Super Bock Super Rock festival in 1995. Super Bock also supports Portuguese artists. A visitor centre called Super Bock House of Beer was inaugurated in 2015.
