About This Drink
Stiegl positions the Sport-Weisse Alkoholfrei as an isotonic drink for after sport, but it's also just a decent non-alcoholic wheat beer in the Austrian style. It's top-fermented and brewed to a 7.4° original gravity, bringing some proper Weissbier character to the glass rather than a thin approximation. It pours cloudy amber with a fine-pored white head that holds reasonably well. The aroma is lightly yeasty: bread dough, soft banana, a mild clove note in the background. These are the classic wheat beer fermentation markers, kept subtle at this ABV. On the palate, the malt body is soft and slightly sweet with a gentle wheat character, and there's a delicate lactic tartness that brightens things without making it sharp. The carbonation is crisp and the body medium-light. The finish is clean and short, fading on a fresh wheat malt note. Contains gluten. Serve at 6 to 8°C in a tall wheat beer glass.
