Tropik Free Gelato
A collaboration between Warsaw brewery Funky Fluid and coffee roasters HAYB, combining guava, mango and lime with Colombian fruit-forward coffee. Non-alcoholic ice cream sour.
About This Drink
Funky Fluid's Gelato series is already fruit-heavy, but Tropik Free Gelato goes further by folding in coffee from Polish roasters HAYB — specifically a Colombian roast described as bursting with notes of ripe fruit, caramel and rum. The effect is a non-alcoholic sour that sits at the intersection of a tropical fruit beer and a cold brew. Guava leads on the nose: sweet, tropical and faintly floral, with mango amplifying the fruit and lime adding a sharper edge. The coffee threads through as a background note rather than a dominant one, contributing a light caramel warmth and fruit-forward depth rather than roasty bitterness. On the palate, the three fruits interweave with the lacto-sour base, which keeps everything lively and prevents the sweetness from settling flat. The wheat, oat and lactose base gives it the characteristic creaminess of the Gelato range, and at 0.5% ABV it sits at the low end of the scale. For fans of the range who want to see what Funky Fluid does when given a coffee-collaborator brief, this is an interesting one.
