About This Drink
Iguana Gym Beer comes from Browar Piotrków, a family-owned Polish brewery that's been running since 1927. The 0.0% lager format is pretty standard; what's unusual is the ingredient list. Each 330ml can contains 1,000mg of BCAAs (leucine, isoleucine, valine), 43mg of caffeine via standardised guarana extract, and a white mulberry fruit infusion. It's a sports supplement dressed as a beer, essentially. In the glass it pours a light amber with minimal head retention. The flavour leans into sweetness more than hops — there's a faint, non-descript bitterness in the background but it doesn't develop into much. The mouthfeel is light and fairly thin. It's not going to fool anyone expecting a proper lager, but that's arguably not the point. At £1 a can from Morrisons, it's one of the cheaper functional drinks around. Whether the BCAA and caffeine quantities are meaningful in recovery terms is debatable — sports nutritionists might raise an eyebrow at the doses — but if you want something cold and beer-adjacent after training without reaching for an energy drink, this fills that gap.
