About This Drink
Bullhouse have been one of the more interesting breweries to emerge from Belfast in recent years, and Taps Aff is their entry into the non-alcoholic space. The name is Scots slang for taking your top off in the sun — shorthand for a beer that's made for easy summer drinking, which is exactly what this aims to be. It's a pale ale rather than an IPA, so there's no aggression here. The hop character is soft stone fruit — peach and apricot rather than citrus or pine — sitting over a light pale malt base. The finish is clean, with just enough hop presence to remind you it's a beer rather than a fruit drink. Vegan and gluten-free, which widens the appeal without any apparent compromise on flavour. Bullhouse brews from Belfast's Cathedral Quarter, and their core range has picked up a decent reputation in the craft beer community. Taps Aff sits at the more accessible end of what they do — it's not trying to be a complex showcase beer, just a straightforward, well-made pale ale you can have a few of without thinking too hard about it.
