About This Drink
The Alkoholfrei IPA comes from Maisel & Friends, the craft-focused offshoot of Brauerei Maisel in Bayreuth, the same family-owned brewery responsible for the Weisse range. It's brewed top-fermented under the Reinheitsgebot — water, barley malt, hops, yeast — and brought in below 0.5% ABV. What stands out is the body. A lot of alcohol-free IPAs end up thin and watery once the ABV goes, but this one holds a full, creamy texture with decent carbonation. The fruit is the character: peach and mango dominate, backed by mirabelle plum and a faint floral hop note. Bitterness is mild rather than properly bracing — it reads more as a fruity pale ale than a West Coast IPA — but that's not necessarily a flaw if you're not expecting face-scraping hops. It's picked up a Community Award Gold on Untappd (2024) and is available through specialist UK retailers including Dry Drinker. At 24 kcal per 100ml it's relatively light. Worth trying if you're after something fruity and substantial in the AF beer aisle.
