Dark Matter was part of the original Lowtide Brewing Co range before the brewery rebranded as Below Brew Co. It sits in the dry stout camp rather than the sweeter pastry direction the brewery later took with Check This Stout. The name fits the beer. Dark in the glass, roasted on the nose, and built around the kind of bitter, coffee-edged malt character that defines the style. Where the later Check This Stout leaned into honeycomb and chocolate sweetness, Dark Matter stays closer to the classic dry stout template — think more roasted barley, less dessert. It is one of the quieter entries in the Below Brew Co back catalogue, having been superseded by more elaborately brewed later releases.
