The Non Pale Ale
A 0.0% tropical pale ale from Manchester's West Didsbury — light and crisp, built around hop character rather than malt weight.
About This Drink
Burton Road Brewing started life as a home-brewing project in West Didsbury before going commercial in 2015. They now contract-brew their range, which sits at the accessible, everyday end of the Manchester craft beer scene. The Non is their AF pale ale, the second entry in a small but growing alcohol-free lineup alongside their Fantastic lager. The hop bill leans tropical — expect something closer to stone fruit and citrus than the pine-and-resin end of the pale ale spectrum. Reviewers pick out mango and orange notes, and there's a soft malt sweetness at the front that rounds things out without making the beer feel heavy. At 0.0%, it's bracingly light. Distribution is mostly through specialist AF retailers rather than supermarkets, and availability can be patchy. It's vegan-friendly and comes in 440ml cans. Worth picking up if you find it — a solid, unpretentious pale ale that doesn't try to overcomplicate things.
