Curious No. 5 takes the Old Fashioned as its reference point. Dark cherry is the dominant flavour, backed by cacao and American oak smoke. The result is the richest and most substantial of the Curious range: deep mahogany in colour, with a palate that leans into bitter chocolate and warm spice rather than sweetness. The carbonation is light and the mouthfeel is warming. On the nose you get cherry and chocolate up front, with the spice coming through underneath. The finish is long, with a slow fade of dark fruit and nutmeg. Elderberry and ginger are included as botanical additions; they contribute to the warmth without being identifiable individually. It's the one to pour if you want something that genuinely approximates the experience of a stirred spirit drink. Serve neat or over a single large ice cube.
