About This Drink
Free AF is a New Zealand brand that built its range around a single idea: that the physical sensation of drinking is as important as the flavour. Their answer is Afterglow, a botanical extract they say stimulates the same taste receptors as alcohol, giving a faint warmth and tingle that most AF drinks simply don't have. The Apéro Spritz is their take on the classic Italian aperitivo. Bittersweet orange is the dominant note — it's closer to Aperol than Campari, leaning sweet rather than bitter. There's a light herbal quality in the background, and the carbonation is brisk enough to make it feel properly spritzy. It's not trying to be a serious cocktail; it's a Friday-evening drink that looks right in the glass. Worth noting: the ingredients include Carmine (a colour derived from insects), so it isn't suitable for vegans despite some marketing suggesting otherwise. Available in 250ml cans, mostly via specialist AF retailers.
