Point Five Hazy IPA
Alcohol-free Hazy IPA from Warsaw's Funky Fluid, double dry-hopped with Galaxy, Azacca and Citra. Unusually for this brewery, the fruit comes entirely from hops.
About This Drink
Funky Fluid's reputation is built on heavily fruited sours, so Point Five Hazy IPA is a different kind of proposition. There is no fruit puree in here. The tropical character comes purely from the hops: a 16.5 g/L hopping rate with Galaxy, Azacca and Citra, double dry-hopped to maximise aroma and flavour. It pours pale straw with visible haze and a thick creamy head. The nose is tropical and resinous — mango, pineapple, citrus lemon, with a vanilla background note from the oat and wheat malt base. On the palate it is fuller-bodied than most alcohol-free IPAs manage, the oats and wheat flakes giving it weight that the zero-ABV brewing process can strip away. Mango and pineapple arrive first, then lychee and grapefruit pith. The bitterness is genuine: earthy and grassy, it builds through the back of the palate and dries the finish. Worth knowing: it is not vegan and not gluten-free. At 0.5% ABV it sits at the higher end of the alcohol-free scale. For fans of hop-forward drinking who find most of the Gelato range too sweet, this is the one.
