Jazz Stout
An alcohol-free oatmeal stout with coffee and cocoa character and a deliberately creamy body.
About This Drink
Originally released as a limited-edition winter seasonal in June 2023, Jazz Stout later joined Heaps Normal's AF core range. The name references the jazz era of the 1920s, evoking the atmosphere of a dark, moody jazz club. The recipe follows the Irish stout tradition, with rolled oats and roasted barley in the grain bill; head brewer Ben Holdstock prioritised a creamy mouthfeel specifically to counter the thinness common in AF dark beers, using temperature control during fermentation to limit alcohol production while preserving body. Roasted barley gives coffee and cocoa character, rounded by the rolled oats. The hop bill includes Fuggles, East Kent Goldings, and Australian Cascade.
