About This Drink
Põhjala Virmalised 0 is the non-alcoholic take on Põhjala's flagship IPA, brewed in Tallinn, Estonia, at under 0.5% ABV. "Virmalised" means "northern lights" in Estonian. The grain bill runs to Dextrin malt, T50 malt, Crystal 150, Golden Naked Oats, Maltodextrin and Lactose, with Citra and Yellow Sub hops and spruce tips in the brew. IBU sits at 20. It pours a burnt orange with a brief off-white head. Lemon zest and mixed citrus dominate the nose, tropical pineapple sitting underneath, with faint floral notes drifting through. The oat and lactose combination gives a smooth, creamy texture on the palate, where overripe mango and melon lead before subtle resinous depth from the spruce builds. The finish is clean and citrus-forward, fading on lemon zest. For those who know the alcoholic Virmalised, the zero version follows the same blueprint without the alcohol. An honest AF IPA from one of the Baltic states' most decorated breweries, stocked by UK specialist AF retailers for sober-curious drinkers who want hop character without compromise. Contains lactose and barley.
