The Taste the Difference Shiraz sits at the top of Sainsbury's own-label red wine range, using a 99% dealcoholised wine base rather than the grape-must blend approach of the entry-level options. That higher wine content gives it a better starting point for Shiraz character. Shiraz is actually a reasonable grape variety choice for dealcoholisation — it tends to have enough dark fruit intensity that some character survives the process. Whether this one convinces as a proper Shiraz is debatable, but the TTD range has been reasonably well received as a step up from the standard House range. Like its siblings in the Taste the Difference line, it's preserved with Dimethyl Dicarbonate, which is standard for low-alcohol wines. At 0.5% ABV and 18kcal per 100ml it's one of the leaner red wine options around. Available only at Sainsbury's.
