Cuba Libre
A. Le Coq's alcohol-free take on the Cuba Libre: cola, lime, and citrus in a carbonated 330ml bottle, with caffeine for the bitter edge.
About This Drink
The Cuba Libre is basically rum and Coke with lime, so making a non-alcoholic version is a reasonable proposition. A. Le Coq's Virgin Cuba Libre leans into the cola flavour, using caramel colouring (E150d) and caffeine to mimic the character of the original mixer, with citric and phosphoric acids adding the acidic bite you'd expect. In the glass, it's a dark cola-brown drink with decent fizz. The taste is closer to a citrus-cola soft drink than anything that will fool a Cuba Libre drinker, but that's perhaps the honest assessment of most RTD mocktails in this category. The caffeine content is a useful detail if you're handing these out at an event. Like the rest of the Virgin Cocktails range, this is an Estonian product from the A. Le Coq stable, more common in Baltic and northern European markets. Simple, functional, and a fair bit lower in sugar than many conventional cola drinks at 8.3g per 100ml.
