Hitachino Nest Beer is a Japanese craft beer brand brewed by Kiuchi Brewery in Naka, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, with a low-alcohol range rooted in a sake and brewing tradition that dates to 1823.

Kiuchi Brewery was founded by Kiuchi Gihei in 1823 as a sake producer and rice merchant before the family moved into beer following the deregulation of Japanese brewing laws. The Hitachino Nest Beer label launched in 1996, drawing on the brewery's sake-making traditions to inform its approach to fermentation and ingredient selection. The brand's signature use of Japanese ingredients, including koji (the malted rice central to sake production), yuzu, and ginger, carries through into its low-alcohol beers, giving them a character grounded in Japanese flavour culture rather than standard Western brewing conventions.

The low-alcohol range sits at approximately 0.3% ABV, placing it in the low-alcohol category rather than the strictly 0.0% bracket. For sober-curious drinkers who want genuine craft provenance in their AF choices, the Hitachino range offers something genuinely unusual: a producer with nearly 200 years of fermentation history and a distinctly Japanese approach to ingredients and brewing philosophy.

Hitachino Nest Beer is now exported to more than 30 countries and is internationally recognised by its distinctive owl logo, which has become one of the more recognisable marks in global craft beer. Distribution through specialist alcohol-free retailers positions the brand as a specialist find rather than a mainstream shelf option, reflecting both the provenance of the brewery and the relative rarity of Japanese craft beer in the low-alcohol space.
