Dr. Zenzen

That founding date reflects genuine history rather than brand positioning. Thirteen generations of the same family have worked the slopes above the Mosel. The business was formally registered as a wine trading company in the village of Valwig, near Cochem, in 1939. Dr. Heinz Zenzen modernised and expanded operations from 1954, and his son Dr. Peter Zenzen joined in 1980, building export trade that now spans more than 80 countries. The company processes in excess of 40 million litres annually, with bottling lines running at over 20,000 bottles per hour.

The Dr. Zenzen name marks out the dealcoholised range within the broader Einig-Zenzen portfolio. Dealcoholisation refers to producing wine at full strength and then removing the alcohol: the resulting product retains the grape character without the ABV. The family chose German grape varieties for this line deliberately, reasoning that their aromatic complexity holds up better through the dealcoholisation process than neutral varieties would. The range covers white and red styles, including a Riesling with citrus and peach character, and a Dornfelder that delivers cassis and red berry flavours in a lighter-bodied style. Both are gluten-free.

Einig-Zenzen also operates Nullnummer, a separate dealcoholised sub-brand alongside Dr. Zenzen. The industrial scale of the operation places this among the larger AF wine producers in terms of output, with distribution across specialist alcohol-free retailers in multiple markets.
