Reh Kendermann has been making wine in Germany since 1920, when Carl Reh senior set up a grape and must trading business in the Mosel valley. Three generations of the Reh family later, the company has grown into one of Germany's largest wine exporters, shipping to nearly 40 countries and employing around 290 people. It's a substantial operation, with the family retaining full ownership throughout.

The big name in their portfolio is Black Tower, a brand they acquired in 1992 that has become the best-known German wine export in the world. Their current headquarters are in Bingen am Rhein, the result of a 1997 merger between the Carl Reh and Hermann Kendermann operations.

For alcohol-free drinkers, there are two main routes into the range. Black Tower produces dealcoholised white, rosé, and red wines under its own label, positioned for everyday drinking at accessible prices and widely stocked in UK supermarkets. Their Ebony Vale brand is a dedicated de-alcoholised wine label with similar coverage, offering white and rosé options. There's also a 0.5% ABV line for those who want something in between.

None of this is boutique. Reh Kendermann operates in the volume end of the wine market, which means consistent quality and broad availability rather than small-batch experimentation. The AF wines are competent, honest, and easy to find — which counts for a lot in a category where distribution is still patchy for smaller producers.
