Verdant Brewing
Verdant Brewing launched in Cornwall in autumn 2014, the project of three friends who wanted to drink the kind of hop-forward American beers that simply weren't available locally. Adam, James, and Rich started small, but the brewery quickly built a following among people who take their pale ales and IPAs seriously. By 2020 they had outgrown their original home and moved into a new facility in Penryn after a successful crowdfunding campaign, with a team that had grown to around 40 people.
The brewery's identity is built on New England-style hops: soft bitterness, tropical and citrus-heavy aromatics, unfiltered haze. Beers like Lightbulb (an XPA), Sundialer (Pale Ale), and their various IPA releases follow that philosophy consistently. Everything is unfiltered, unfined, and vegan-friendly. They've also opened taprooms and bars across Cornwall, making them as much a destination as a production brewery.
Their alcohol-free offering is Psych!, an AF IPA that tries to carry the same hop character as the rest of the range. It's a genuine attempt to do what Verdant does, just without the alcohol — which is a tougher ask than it sounds for a style where aroma and mouthfeel are doing most of the heavy lifting.
Verdant occupies the premium end of the UK craft beer market. Their beers sell out quickly and are distributed through a mix of their own online shop, specialist beer retailers, and their taprooms.
