Leadbetter set up the distillery at the age of 23, having left London to restore craft distilling to the county. The business operates under the name Southwestern Distillery as an independent, family-run enterprise and built its reputation over more than a decade on small-batch gin production. Every bottle is hand-filled, hand-labelled, and sealed in wax at the Cornish site, a level of handwork that distinguishes the brand from larger-volume operations.

In 2024, Tarquin's entered the alcohol-free category with the launch of its 0% Cornish Dry Non-Alcoholic Spirit, a single AF addition to an otherwise alcoholic range. The product uses the same botanical selection as the flagship Cornish Dry Gin, including hand-picked Devon violets and fresh citrus, making it a direct botanical counterpart to the original rather than a product developed from a separate brief. Leadbetter described the launch as a long-held ambition to replicate the flagship's flavour profile without alcohol, giving the AF product the same authenticity of intent as the gin that preceded it.

The 0% Cornish Dry is aimed at sober-curious drinkers who want the character of a carefully made botanical spirit. Distribution is available directly through the brand's own website, with retail rollout described as ongoing at the time of the launch.
