Pacific
Pacific is a French alcohol-free anise-flavoured drink produced by Pernod Ricard, launched in 1982 as a direct alternative to traditional pastis. The brand sits within Pernod Ricard's Strategic Local Brands portfolio and is formulated with natural extracts of star anise, giving it the characteristic cloudy, liquorice-forward profile associated with southern French aperitif culture.
Pacific was conceived specifically for drinkers who wanted to participate in the ritual of the pastis serve without alcohol, a positioning that made it one of the earlier dedicated AF aperitif products from a major spirits group. Its primary markets are France and Belgium, where the pastis tradition is most deeply rooted, though the brand is available through specialist importers beyond those core markets. Pacific's signature serve follows the classic pastis ratio: one part Pacific diluted with five parts cold water, typically over ice.
Pacific occupies an unusual position in the AF aperitif category: a heritage brand with over four decades of continuous production, predating the current AF category boom by a generation. Distribution outside Francophone markets remains narrow, available through specialist channels rather than mainstream supermarket distribution.
