Amie
Amie started with a WhatsApp message. In April 2020, as the UK settled into its first lockdown, Will and Abbie Sandbach hatched a plan to bring a quality French rosé to the UK market. Their first pallet landed in June, the original rosé sold out in seven weeks, and they were off. What began as a direct-to-consumer operation run from London, with Will delivering orders by car, has since grown into a proper wine brand with a permanent wine studio at Eccleston Yards in London and stockists across Scandinavia, the Netherlands, Japan, and Australia.
The name amie is French for female friend. The founders chose it during a period when friendship felt particularly significant, and it has become the thread that runs through everything the brand does. The aesthetic is considered, the bottles are pale and understated, and the wines lean towards dry, fresh styles that suit the way people actually drink now.
The range is rooted in southern France. Amie's rosé is the flagship, and there are now several expressions: the original, a premium organic version, a sauvignon blanc, a carignan red from old vines, and a crémant de Limoux made by the traditional method. Most sit in the £17 to £25 range, which puts them at the premium end for direct-to-consumer French wine.
The non-alcoholic option is a lightly sparkling rosé, made from Grenache and dealcoholised by reverse osmosis rather than heat-based methods. That distinction matters: reverse osmosis preserves the wine's natural aromatics more faithfully than evaporation techniques, and the result is noticeably drier and less sweet than many non-alcoholic wines. It comes in at £16, which is competitive within the premium non-alcoholic wine bracket.
Amie also donates £1 per order to charity: water, a clean water charity operating in developing countries. The brand has reportedly funded three wells in Uganda through this programme.
With just one non-alcoholic option in the range, Amie is not an AF specialist, but the non-alc rosé is a serious effort rather than an afterthought. It sits comfortably in premium non-alcoholic wine territory and benefits from the brand's generally high production standards.
