Barrel Tea
Barrel Tea is a Dutch alcohol-free brand making teas infused with oak from used whisky, cognac, and rum barrels, founded by Henri Koekkoek, whose background in wood technology led him to find a new use for the aromas those barrels accumulate.
When a spirit barrel finishes its working life, the oak retains the accumulated aromatic character from its time holding spirit. Koekkoek's approach is to chip that wood and pack it into airtight tea bags, so the aromas transfer into hot water during brewing. Barrel Tea uses a wood infusion process, with flavour coming directly from the barrel timber rather than from any added spirit or artificial flavouring. The tea bags are made from PLA (Polylactic Acid), a biodegradable material produced from renewable sources, which reflects the brand's focus on sustainability and authenticity.
The brand distributes through multiple retail channels, reaching sober-curious drinkers and others drawn to the sensory character of barrel-aged drinks.
