Browar Gzub
Browar Gzub is an independent family craft brewery founded in 2017 in Annopole, in Poland's Wielkopolska (Greater Poland) voivodeship, with a range spanning traditional and contemporary beer styles alongside an alcohol-free beer.
The brewery's story begins in 2013, when co-founder Wiktor Staszewski opened a shop selling imported beers. A homebrew sample at an Easter breakfast sparked the ambition to brew, and Staszewski went on to contract brew in Belgium in 2014. Browar Gzub was established on the back of five years of experience and apprenticeships at Belgian and Dutch breweries; early production took place at Brasserie De Bastogne in Belgium. The first Gzub beer, a Saison, reached the market in 2017.
Across the brewery's range, styles include pale ales, pils, wheat beers, IPAs, sour ales and stouts. Sour beers are produced using the kettle sour method, and bottle refermentation is used throughout production. The brewery brews using natural ingredients and its own recipes. The alcohol-free option includes a beer brewed with lime juice.
Browar Gzub's name is taken from the local subdialect of the Wielkopolska region, where "gzub" can be translated as "beer belly" or "stripling". The brewery holds membership of the Culinary Heritage network for Wielkopolska. Beer is available bottled and in kegs, supplied directly from the brewery; visitors are also welcome to tour the facility and sample beers on site.
