Casillero Del Diablo
Casillero del Diablo is a Chilean wine brand launched in 1966, produced by Viña Concha y Toro, with an alcohol-free sparkling wine in its range made from gently dealcoholised Chardonnay grapes.
The brand's name comes from a legend attributed to its founder, Don Melchor de Concha y Toro, who spread a rumour that the Devil inhabited his private cellar at the Pirque estate to prevent bottles from going missing. Still known in Spanish as "La Leyenda del Vino", the brand sources grapes from vineyards across the Maipo, Maule, Rapel, Casablanca and Limar Valleys in Chile. Marcelo Papa has served as technical director since 1998, alongside winemaker Marcio Ramírez.
The alcohol-free addition to the range is a sparkling wine produced from early-harvested Chardonnay grapes that are gently dealcoholised, meaning the wine is made at full strength and the alcohol then removed. The wider portfolio spans more than ten varieties.
Casillero del Diablo is present in over 140 countries and has reached annual production of around six million cases at peak. In the UK, it is the leading Chilean wine brand and the third-largest wine brand by off-trade sales. The brand has held a Best Value positioning worldwide since 1998 and, following a strategic alliance signed in 2010, serves as the Official Wine Partner of Manchester United, a partnership noted for the devil appearing as a shared symbol in both organisations' imagery. It is ranked as the second most influential wine brand worldwide and the leading brand in Latin America, and sits as a key brand within the Concha y Toro portfolio.
