Citizen Spritz
Citizen Spritz was built out of frustration. Founders Mike and Mark were both drinking less, but they couldn't find anything that filled the gap properly. Thin alcohol-free beers and sugary mocktails weren't cutting it. What they wanted was something that felt like a proper drink, something with complexity and a bit of occasion to it, without the booze. So they made it themselves.
The result is a range of non-alcoholic spritzes that take a different approach to most AF drinks. Rather than trying to replicate a specific wine or spirit, Citizen Spritz leans into the spritz format itself. Each flavour is a concentrate designed to be mixed with sparkling water, giving you a fizzy, vibrant drink with what the brand describes as a warming finish. The concentrate approach means you control the intensity, which is a practical advantage over ready-to-drink formats.
There are four flavours in the core range: Pink Grapefruit, Bitter Orange, Cool Lime, and Passion Fruit. They're all bold rather than subtle. Pink Grapefruit is sharp and citrus-forward. Bitter Orange brings more complexity with a zesty, slightly herbal edge. Cool Lime has a minty freshness to it. Passion Fruit sits on the sweeter side. All four lean on natural plant compounds for both flavour and the sensation that makes alcohol-free drinks feel flat when it's missing. Canned ready-to-drink versions are available alongside the bottles for those who don't want to mix.
The brand has picked up coverage from a range of lifestyle and drinks publications and earned recognition at the World Alcohol-Free Awards in 2023, which puts it in credible company within the still-developing AF spritz category.
Distribution is focused on online channels. Products are available through the brand's own website with free delivery, and via Amazon UK and specialist retailer Dry Drinker. There's no supermarket presence at the time of writing, which keeps it in the specialist-find bracket rather than the mainstream grab-and-go market. That suits the brand's positioning: Citizen Spritz is aimed at people actively looking for something better, not people picking up an AF option as an afterthought.
At its core this is a brand solving a specific problem. The spritz format is social, versatile, and low on pretension, and Citizen Spritz has built something that works well within those parameters. Whether the concentrate format becomes their calling card or they expand into other formats as the brand grows remains to be seen.
