Bitter Orange
A non-alcoholic bitter orange spritz concentrate in a 500ml bottle. Mix one part to four with sparkling water for a zesty, aperitivo-style drink built around grape juice and agave.
About This Drink
Citizen Spritz pitch this as their "award-winning" flavour, and the bitter orange is their most aperitivo-adjacent option. Unlike the RTD cans in their range, this comes as a concentrate. A 500ml bottle makes around ten servings when diluted roughly one-to-four with sparkling water over ice. That format suits the flavour profile: bitter orange works better with length and fizz than it does straight. The base is 17% grape juice concentrate, which gives it more fruity body than the Cool Lime. Agave syrup handles the sweetness, tartaric and citric acid sharpen the edges, and safflower concentrate adds a colour note without contributing much flavour. The result is something genuinely bitter-citrus in character, closer to a Campari-soda-adjacent soft drink than a fruit squash, though with none of the complexity of an actual amaro. At 90 kcal per 100ml of concentrate that sounds high, but per finished drink it comes down considerably, around 23 kcal per 25ml serving mixed up. Worth factoring in if you're tracking. It's available from Dry Drinker and Amazon, which makes it easy enough to find.
