De Bortoli

Vittorio De Bortoli left the mountain villages near Asolo in northern Italy, arriving in Griffith, New South Wales, in 1925. He bought a 55-acre property in Bilbul and made his first wine in 1928, establishing what would become an enduring family wine business. His son Deen began taking part in the company in 1952, and the winery is now run by Deen's four children: Darren, Kevin, Leanne, and Victor, with Darren serving as Managing Director and Emeri De Bortoli as Company Chairperson.

The company owns wineries in four distinct Australian wine-growing regions: the Riverina and Hunter Valley in New South Wales, and the Yarra Valley and Rutherglen in Victoria. Its headquarters remain in Bilbul, near Griffith in the Riverina.

De Bortoli's alcohol-free wines are made using dealcoholisation techniques: vacuum distillation, which removes alcohol under reduced pressure at lower temperatures to preserve the wine's character, and reverse osmosis, which passes the wine through fine membranes to separate out the alcohol. The range spans reds, whites, and sparkling rosés, suited to sober-curious drinkers who want wine without the alcohol.

Sustainability is a documented part of the operation. De Bortoli was the first Australian winery to install a large-scale solar energy system, is a Certified Member of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, and holds Platinum Partner status with Sustainability Advantage. A 2008 programme introduced planting 17 trees for each company vehicle, and the winery operates under a commitment to becoming a zero-waste wine company. The business also runs an integrated pest management system in the vineyard, has adopted recycling across all sites, and replaced sodium with potassium in tank and machinery cleaning. De Bortoli's wines are distributed across multiple channels, including its estate in the Yarra Valley and broad retail reach across Australia and beyond.
