Jever
Jever is a German pilsener brewery based in the town of Jever, in the Friesland region of north-west Germany, founded by innkeeper Diedrich König in 1848.
König began by selling bottled beer from the inn he ran in town, and Friesisches Brauhaus zu Jever has operated on the same site since that year. Following the sale by König's son, Theodor Fetköter took over the brewery. In 1934, brewer Ernst Böhme developed an assertively bitter pilsner, and the beer has been sold under the Jever Pilsener name since then. The brewery draws on particularly soft water from Friesland and uses hop varieties including Hallertau, Tettnang, Herkules, and Perle. The pilsner has a grassy aroma and is regarded as one of the most bitter, hoppy lagers in Germany. Jever was among the first breweries to bottle its beer in custom dark green glass. From the 1950s, Jever beer has been sold worldwide, and the brewery produces around 1.09 million hectolitres per year.
In 1991, Jever introduced an alcohol-free pilsener to its range. The beer is brewed at full strength and the alcohol is then removed through cool vacuum distillation, a low-temperature process that extracts the alcohol while keeping the character of the pilsner intact. It is the number one alcohol-free beer in Germany, reaching designated drivers and sober-curious drinkers across a wide market.
Jever has been part of the Radeberger Gruppe since the group acquired the brewery in 2005. Its beer is available through a broad international retail footprint.
