Kapuziner is the wheat beer arm of Kulmbacher Brauerei AG, a large Bavarian brewery based in Kulmbach in northern Bavaria. Kulmbacher's origins trace back to the mid-nineteenth century, though the brewery in its current corporate form was established in 1895. Today it operates under majority ownership of Brau Holding International, with a portfolio that includes several well-known German beer brands alongside Kapuziner.

The Kapuziner range launched in 1987 and draws its character from the Franconian wheat beer tradition. The name references the Capuchin monks, a Franciscan order whose distinctive brown habits are echoed in the brand's identity. All products are brewed according to the German Reinheitsgebot, the purity law that restricts ingredients to water, malt, hops, and yeast.

The alcohol-free offering is Hefe Alkoholfrei Naturtrüb, a naturally hazy wheat beer brewed to below 0.5% ABV. It follows the same recipe as the regular Hefe-Weissbier but with the alcohol gently removed after fermentation. The result is a recognisably Bavarian pour: hazy and golden, with the banana and clove character typical of top-fermented wheat beers. It's lighter and a touch thinner than the full-strength version, but the wheat base still comes through clearly.

In the UK, Kapuziner Alkoholfrei is sold through specialist online retailers and occasionally appears on Amazon. It's not a supermarket find. This is a traditional German brewery adding an AF variant to a long-established range, rather than a brand built for the alcohol-free market specifically.
