La Borosa
La Borosa is a non-alcoholic agave spirit brand built around a genuine production process rather than flavourings and marketing copy. The blue agave used in the Blanco is hand-harvested by jimadors in the Jaliscan highlands, cooked in traditional hornos, and rested against aged oak casks. That last step is unusual in the non-alcoholic spirits category: most brands skip oak contact entirely. Resting against rather than in the casks keeps the spirit crystal clear while adding a subtle rounding quality that shows up as faint complexity in the finish.
The Blanco itself has clean agave on the nose, a light citrus note, and gentle oakiness underneath. It sits lighter on the palate than an alcoholic blanco, which is to be expected, but avoids the hollow sweetness or artificial aftertaste that catches out many non-alcoholic spirit alternatives. The finish is dry and fades slowly. In cocktails it holds up well without significant adjustment, which is the real test for any spirit-alternative in this category.
The range extends beyond the core bottle. A Margarita and Paloma are both available as ready-to-drink cans, giving the brand a different entry point for those who want something in the category without the mixing ritual. All three products come in under 0.5% ABV.
The brand's identity draws on Aztec mythology, specifically the story of Mayahuel, goddess of the maguey agave, and Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent god of wind. The visual identity, designed by Sip Studio with linocut illustrations by Mexican artist Eduardo Robledo, is genuinely premium: heavyweight textured paper, embossing, and foiling give the bottle a tactile quality that sits comfortably alongside top-shelf tequila on a back bar. This was clearly a deliberate positioning decision, placing La Borosa in the premium spirits space rather than the wellness aisle.
The brand operates out of the US, distributed by DioniLife, and launched with national availability through borosa.com and specialist retailer Pavari, with wholesale distribution building across Colorado. UK availability is still limited and currently online-focused. The non-alcoholic agave category is crowded with products that disappoint on flavour, and La Borosa's production method at least suggests the brief was taken seriously.
