Lowlander
Lowlander is an Amsterdam-based botanical beer brand, founded in 2015, that brews low-alcohol and alcohol-free beers drawing on the Netherlands' tradition of using herbs and spices in the brewing process.
Frederik Kampman founded Lowlander after developing an interest in botanical-based beers while working in gin distilling in the UK, then discovering that his home country had its own history of brewing beer with botanicals, a practice known as gruit brewing. The brand brews in Amsterdam using barley, hops, yeast and water as a base, adding herbs, spices and fruit including reclaimed citrus peel to each recipe.
The portfolio spans alcohol-free witbiers, blond beers, IPAs and wheat beers, with a gluten-free blond beer among the options, all produced at one facility with no separate processing systems across the range. Lowlander introduced an alcohol-free beer to the UK market brewed from reclaimed orange and lemon citrus peel, incorporating waste citrus as a brewing ingredient.
Lowlander is a member of 1% For The Planet and channels 1% of its revenue to environmental causes including reforestation. The brand covers more than 10 beers across various strengths, from low-alcohol to 0.00% ABV, suited to sober-curious drinkers and those reducing their alcohol intake.
