In January 2020, Diageo acquired a minority stake through its accelerator programme, Distill Ventures, making Ritual the first US AF spirits brand to receive backing from the Diageo-supported accelerator. The brand's cocktail-utility positioning was an early signal of how the category would develop: several established spirits groups recognised the substitution approach as a viable commercial model before wider consumer adoption took hold. Ritual retained its Chicago base and independent identity within the Distill Ventures structure.

The five-product range is available direct-to-consumer through the brand's own site and sits in the premium bracket. Ritual Zero Proof is primarily US-market-facing in terms of mainstream retail distribution, with direct shipping extending reach internationally.
