Sandford Orchards

Sandford Orchards is a cider producer based in Crediton, Mid Devon, founded in 2002 and operating from what is recognised as the oldest working cider mill in the UK. The business was started by Barny Butterfield, whose founding motivation was a practical one: he couldn't afford to go to the pub. An independent, family-owned operation, Sandford Orchards produces a range of ciders from its Devon mill and includes an alcohol-free cider alongside its full-strength lineup.

Apples are sourced within 30 miles of the press, with West Country varieties including Farmers Glory, Dabinett and Sweet Alford making up the blend. Every cider begins with fresh juice, which is fermented and then left to mature, age and develop before blending and packaging. The approach is fresh, natural and low impact, combining traditional cider-making methods with ongoing innovation across orchard and production.

The range covers core session, traditional, fine and fruit styles. A taproom operates at the Crediton mill, and the brand distributes through multiple retail channels.
