Schloss Eggenberg
Schloss Eggenberg is a family-run brewery in Vorchdorf, Upper Austria, known for its history in low-alcohol beer production and with commercial brewing at the site dating to 1681. Michael Weismann purchased the castle that year and established the brewery; his family held Schloss Eggenberg until 1803, when the Störch family took ownership. Situated in the Salzkammergut region, the brewery narrowly survived a fire in 1877. A modern brewhouse was constructed alongside the historic brewery in 2000, and Thomas Lugmair serves as master brewer.
Schloss Eggenberg holds approximately 2% of the Austrian beer market and is regarded as one of the leading breweries in Europe for the production of speciality beers. In 1999 the brewery acquired the Samichlaus brand from Feldschlössen.
The brewery has long been associated with low-alcohol beer production, and its alcohol-free range is of interest to sober-curious drinkers and designated drivers seeking options from a historic central European producer. Its alcohol-free beer has received awards recognition.
