Schützengarten
Schützengarten is a Swiss brewery founded in St. Gallen in 1779 by Johann Ulrich Tobler, producing a dedicated alcohol-free beer range made by gently removing the alcohol after brewing.
Schützengarten has been brewing in the St. Gallen region since 1779, making it one of the longest-established breweries in Switzerland. The brewery maintains a strong identity rooted in St. Gallen and eastern Switzerland across more than two centuries of continuous operation, and the founding year appears as a key part of the brand's own positioning.
The AF range is produced using a gentle dealcoholisation process: the beer is brewed to full strength and then has the alcohol carefully extracted in a way designed to preserve the flavour profile of the finished beer. The range spans lagers, wheat beers, and IPAs, covering the main styles that drinkers might look for in an AF lineup from a traditional European brewery.
Schützengarten is a founding member of Die Freien Brauer (The Free Brewers), a European association of independent breweries sharing a commitment to craft and autonomy from larger brewing groups. That founding membership places the brewery among producers who have opted to remain independent over the long term.
With a founding year of 1779 and a founding membership of a major independent brewing association, Schützengarten's AF range carries the credentials of a brewery that has been part of the Swiss beer landscape for over two centuries.
