Sharp's
Sharp's Brewery is a Cornish beer brand founded in 1994 in Rock, Cornwall, producing an alcohol-free amber ale alongside its full-strength range as a subsidiary of Molson Coors Beverage Company.
Bill Sharp founded the brewery in Rock in 1994. Molson Coors acquired it in 2011 for £20 million, and Sharp's now operates as part of that global brewing group while retaining its North Cornish identity. The brewery's flagship beer takes its name from the Doom Bar, the notorious sandbank at the mouth of the Camel Estuary. Sharp's describes itself as the UK's leading premium cask ale brewer.
The alcohol-free offering is a single 0.0% amber ale, launched in 2020 as the first alcohol-free version of the original full-strength recipe. Amber ale is a relatively unusual format within the AF category, which has historically been dominated by lagers and pale ales. The 0.0% version was developed to carry across the dried fruit and lightly roasted malt character associated with the parent beer. For sober-curious drinkers who already know the original from cask, the 0.0% variant offers a recognisable flavour reference in a format that suits a wider range of occasions.
Distribution is broad: the AF amber ale is widely stocked across mainstream supermarkets and through specialist alcohol-free retailers, giving it one of the wider retail footprints among AF amber ales on the market. The Molson Coors distribution network has clearly supported that reach. The AF range remains a single product rather than a dedicated no-alcohol line, with the brand's identity rooted firmly in its full-strength cask heritage.
