Doom Bar Zero

Sharp's Doom Bar Zero is a 0.0% amber ale from Rock, Cornwall, brewed to full strength then dealcoholised to preserve the original's caramel malt character.

About This Drink

Sharp's Doom Bar Zero is a 0.0% alcohol-free amber ale brewed at Sharp's Brewery in Rock, Cornwall, UK, launched in August 2020. The original Doom Bar has been one of the most widely stocked cask ales in the UK for decades, and Sharp's approach here was to build from the same recipe and dealcoholise after full fermentation rather than brewing short. The post-fermentation alcohol removal process preserves the malt character that defines the original. In the glass it pours deep amber with a modest cream head. The nose carries toffee malt and dried fruit with a light floral hop note. On the palate there is caramel, raisin sweetness, a hint of liquorice, and enough dry bitterness in the finish to keep things from tipping into sweet territory. Body is medium, carbonation steady. It comes in 500ml bottles and sits at the accessible end of the AF beer range, a practical option for moderators or designated drivers who want something with more structure than a pale lager. Contains malted barley and oats, so it is not gluten-free.
