Southern Grist Brewing
Southern Grist Brewing is a Nashville, Tennessee micro-brewery and taproom that also produces alcohol-free beverages, founded in February 2016. The three co-founders, Kevin Antoon (CEO), Jamie Lee (CFO), and Jared Welch (Head Brewer), met while working together at ServiceSource before turning their homebrewing experience into a neighbourhood taproom in East Nashville, opening in a 430-square-foot space. Planning ran from mid-2014, with the brewery formally opening on 2 February 2016. On the two-year anniversary, Southern Grist added a second taproom and production space in The Nations neighbourhood, bringing the brewery to two Nashville locations.
Southern Grist produces small-batch and experimental beers without a flagship product and does not always follow the Reinheitsgebot, the German beer purity law. A Solera-style blending technique is among its production methods. Over seven years the brewery made more than 1,000 different beers and sold 125,000 in its first year. The brewery also runs a bottle society called Loyal Fans of Grist and a food concept named Lauter.
Alongside its beer range, Southern Grist Brewing produces alcohol-free beverages including hop water and seltzer. The hop water is brewed using Citra and Motueka hops, and a CBD-infused variant draws on locally sourced CBD from LabCanna. One of the brand's alcohol-free drinks has picked up an award. Southern Grist Brewing is planned to be acquired by XUL Beer Company.
