Tarquin's
Tarquin's is a family-run, independent Cornish gin distillery, founded near Padstow in 2013 as the first in Cornwall for over a century, with an alcohol-free gin alternative now part of its range. Self-taught distiller Tarquin Leadbetter started the business having quit his desk job and relocated to the West Country, beginning on a 0.7 litre copper pot still in what is now an operation running four traditional, direct-flame copper pot stills in a converted cow shed on the Wild Cornish Coast.
Gin is produced in small batches of around 300 bottles at a time, hand-corked and finished with a wax dip seal. Each batch is distilled with 12 botanicals, including angelica, orris root, citrus fruits, cinnamon and Devon violets. The range is sold in over 30 countries, and Tarquin's is the UK's best-selling super-premium gin brand.
Tarquin's entered the alcohol-free category with a gin alternative aimed at sober-curious drinkers that took three years to develop. The spirit draws on botanicals native to the Cornish coast, among them gorse flowers, sea buckthorn, violets and local sea salt. The distillery also runs a Thirsty Thursday series of weekly limited-edition releases alongside its core range.
