Villiera Wines
Villiera Wines is a family-run winery in Stellenbosch, South Africa, acquired by the Grier family in 1983 and producing its first alcohol-free wine in 2023.
Villiera built its reputation over four decades as an early pioneer in Cap Classique, the South African term for traditionally-made sparkling wine, and the winery is also a member of the Old Vine Project, a South African conservation initiative that identifies and protects the country's oldest vineyard sites. In 2023, Villiera launched its first 0.0% AF wine. The alcohol is removed using a spinning cone column, a low-temperature process that spins the wine under reduced pressure, separating out the alcohol whilst preserving the original aromas and flavour character.
Environmental stewardship runs alongside the winemaking operation. Villiera runs a large solar power system across the property and manages a 220-hectare wildlife sanctuary set aside in conjunction with neighbouring landowners.
Villiera Wines suits sober-curious wine drinkers drawn to an established South African producer with decades of winemaking history now extending into the AF category.
