Williams Bros.
Williams Bros. Brewing Co. is a family-run Scottish craft brewery, founded in 2004, that brews ales, lagers and alcohol-free beers from its base in Alloa, Clackmannanshire.
The brewery traces its origins to a single home-brew batch of a heather ale: a woman of Gaelic descent visited a homebrew shop in Glasgow and brought a translation of a 4,000-year-old recipe. Early commercial brews ran at a 5-barrel site in Taynult, when the business was known as Heather Ale Ltd. Scott Williams and Bruce Williams then established Williams Bros. Brewing Co. in 2004, taking over the Forth Brewery site in Alloa. Initially focused on ancient Scottish styles, the brewery has since developed over 50 recipes and is now one of Scotland's largest independent breweries. It is also the last remaining Alloa brewery.
Heather features as an ingredient, alongside bog myrtle and sweet gale; 100% UK-sourced barley is used throughout, with Scottish ingredients drawn on wherever possible. The brewing process includes vorlaufing (recirculating liquid through the grain bed before transfer) and centrifuge separation to clarify the finished beer.
The brewery employs more than fifty staff and serves as a contract brewing and packaging facility for other Scottish brewers. Its alcohol-free beers sit within the wider portfolio, with a new Scottish lager planned for early 2026. Packaging design has been handled by Mil Stricevic since 2004. Distribution spans multiple retail channels.
