Weizen Wheat Beer
Alcohol-free Bavarian wheat beer from Rosenheim's Flötzinger brewery, with the banana and clove character of the style kept largely intact through careful dealcoholisation.
About This Drink
Flötzinger's Hefe Weisse at full strength (5.2% ABV) is a proper Bavarian wheat beer with banana and clove aromatics. Their alcohol-free Weizen aims to preserve those characteristics through a gentle alcohol removal process, and according to the brewery, the typical wheat beer taste is retained rather than stripped away. The result is an unfiltered wheat beer in the Bavarian tradition: hazy and yeast-forward, with the signature esters and phenols of the style. Banana is the dominant note on the nose, with clove spice behind it — both classic markers of Bavarian hefeweizen yeast. The palate is light and slightly fruity, with enough body to feel authentic. It's isotonic, vegan-friendly, and low in sugar — attributes that make it popular with the sports nutrition crowd as well as the alcohol-free market. From a traditional regional brewery that's been at it since 1543, the Weizen is the more characterful of the two alcohol-free options in Flötzinger's range.
