About This Drink
The Kaineken Gooseberry Pale is one of the more distinctive entries in Õllenaut's non-alcoholic range, stepping away from the clean hoppy formats of the Citra and IPA variants to bring in real fruit and a farmhouse yeast character. The gooseberry juice adds a tanginess that makes this feel more like a sour pale ale than a conventional fruit beer. The aroma comes through with a fresh gooseberry tartness, green and slightly sharp, with a light hop background. On the palate the gooseberry is upfront — fruity, tart, and a touch earthy — balanced by soft malt sweetness and a gentle bitterness. The farmhouse yeast adds a subtle funky edge that keeps things interesting without becoming distracting. The body is light, the carbonation lively. The finish is dry and clean with a lingering gooseberry tartness. Õllenaut note it is unfiltered and vegan. For those who find most non-alcoholic pales too straightforward, this one at least has a point of difference.
