About This Drink
Giesen 0% Sauvignon Blanc is a dealcoholised white wine from Marlborough and Waipara in New Zealand, sitting under 0.5% ABV after spinning cone technology extracts the aromas first, then removes the alcohol, before recombining the captured aromatic compounds with the dealcoholised wine body. The process was developed to preserve what makes Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc recognisable, and at 13 calories per 100ml the result is one of the lighter, more aromatic options in the AF wine category. The nose shows fresh lime, redcurrant, and a faint lemon shortbread note. The palate follows with bright citrus, blackcurrant, and passionfruit, carried by natural acidity throughout. The finish is crisp and dry, without sweetness to soften the landing. Sauvignon Blanc is one of the white varieties that tends to hold up better through the dealcoholisation process because its aromatic intensity compensates for the loss of alcohol's textural contribution. Available in 750ml bottles from Dry Drinker, Wise Bartender, and The Alcohol Free Co in the UK. For sober-curious drinkers and designated drivers who want an AF white with genuine varietal character, this is a solid starting point.
