0.0% Lager
A Scottish AF lager brewed at 0.0% from the outset, using flaked oats for body and Styrian Goldings hops for a light citrus bite.
About This Drink
Innis & Gunn built their reputation on oak-aged beer, so launching a 0.0% lager was a notable left turn. Unlike many AF beers that start with a full-strength brew and strip the alcohol out, this one is fermented to 0.0% from the beginning — a process the brewery says preserves more of the intended character. Styrian Goldings and Super Styrian hops go in alongside flaked oats, which are there to add smoothness and stop the body from collapsing entirely. The result is a malt-forward lager that leans into bready cereal notes rather than hop character. There's a dried apricot quality in the background and enough bitterness to stop it tasting flat, but it never really builds beyond that. At 23 kcal per 100ml it's among the lighter options on the market. The oats do their job — this doesn't have the watery, thin quality that sinks a lot of zero-percent lagers. User reception has been mixed. Some find the citrus element veers into something a bit sharp; others are happy enough with it as a straightforward pub-style lager. It contains barley, so it's not gluten-free, and it's not certified vegan. Best served properly cold.
