Tropicous
A 0.5% hazy IPA from Kirkstall, built around Citra, Krush and Talus hops for a tropical fruit hit that leans hard into mango and guava.
About This Drink
Kirkstall already had Virtuous in the alcohol-free corner, so Tropicous is clearly a deliberate step in a different direction. Where Virtuous is clean and citrus-forward, Tropicous goes full tropical, choosing three hops that are practically engineered for the job: Citra brings the grapefruit and citrus edge, Krush punches up the mango and passion fruit, and Talus adds a ripe stone fruit quality that keeps the whole thing soft rather than sharp. The result is a hazy IPA that smells the part before you've even taken a sip. On the palate it follows through. Mango leads, guava sits underneath, and there's a faint pink grapefruit pith note on the close that stops it from being cloying. The body is lighter than you might expect given the aroma, which actually works in its favour. It doesn't try to be a meal. Worth noting: Tropicous contains wheat, oats and malted barley, so it's not suitable for anyone avoiding gluten. It is vegan. Kirkstall sell it direct from their Leeds shop at £3 a can, with multipacks available for better value.
