London Dry
A non-alcoholic London Dry gin alternative built on Scottish Deeside spring water and a classic botanical lineup: juniper, orris root, coriander, and Sicilian lemon.
About This Drink
Pearsons Botanicals is part of the Spirits of Virtue range, created by Scottish brothers Roddy and Kerr Nicoll. The London Dry is their take on a classic London Dry-style gin alternative, made without alcohol from the outset and using a combination of distillation, maceration, steam extraction, and what the brand calls "inventive alchemy." The water base comes from Pannanich Wells in Aberdeenshire, drawn from the Cairngorm mountains. The botanical bill is conventional in the best sense: alpine juniper at the centre, supported by Italian orris root, Indian coriander seed, and Sicilian lemon peel. In the glass, mixed at the suggested 3:1 ratio with tonic, the lemon lifts first — bright and a little tart — before the juniper comes through with a clean, piney dryness. There are background notes of green apple and gooseberry, with a whisper of elderflower. It lacks the weight that alcohol provides, but it handles itself well with a light tonic and ice. Widely available online and at specialist AF retailers. The 700ml bottle is good value given the diluted serve, and it carries the vegan, gluten-free, and Halal certifications if those matter to you.
