Spiced Apple Jun Kombucha
A jun kombucha combining apple with cinnamon, cardamom and ginger, brewed with organic Sussex honey and green tea and barrel-aged in small batches from the Pop Cultures Brighton brewery.
About This Drink
The Spiced Apple sits at the warmer end of the Pop Cultures range. Where the Apple & Cardamom is clean and lightly floral, this one leans into a more autumnal combination — baked apple, cinnamon, cardamom and a touch of ginger together suggest something you'd want cold from the fridge on a dark afternoon as readily as alongside food. The jun base does what it always does here: the green tea and honey fermentation keeps the sweetness restrained, so the spices don't read as heavy or confected. Apple provides body and soft fruit character; cinnamon and cardamom give warmth; ginger adds a lightly sharp edge that stops the whole thing from becoming too comfortable. The barrel-ageing lends the usual faint woody smoothness. It came in 33cl cans rather than the 330ml glass bottles of the rest of the Pop Cultures range, suggesting it may have been a more limited format. The brand's current website doesn't list it, so availability appears restricted to specialist stockists.
